Local LGBT-Friendly Policies
A listing of local governments known to have LGBT-inclusive policies related to non-discrimination or domestic partnership.
Local Governments are evaluated on four types of policies:
- Sexual Orientation Non-Discrimination - Local government has adopted a non-discrimination policy that includes sexual orientation for government employees
- Gender Identity Non-Discrimination - Local government has adopted a non-discrimination policy that includes sexual orientation for government employees
- Domestic Partner Benefits - Local government provides it's employees with equal benefits for same-sex couples as married opposite-sex couples to the extent possible under state and federal law.
- Domestic Partner Registry - Local government has a registry allowing same-sex couples to register their relationships.
Note: Local governments do not have the authority to address employment discrimination by private employers; that must be addressed at the state legislature.
