As The World Interns ...

1/27/2010 - Equality NC is pleased to welcome our interns for spring 2010: Jack Grote, Brant Miller, and Danielle O'Bryan. We also welcome back Aaron Camp and Hillary Waugh.

Jack Grote, internJack Grote is currently a junior at Duke University majoring in Women’s Studies with a minor in Cultural Anthropology and a certificate in the Study of Sexualities. He has been an employee at The Center for LGBT Life at Duke for the past three years planning their weekly social Fabulous Fridays. He is particularly interested in policy work and community organizing. He first became involved with Equality NC by attending the Equality Conference for the past three years and by attending Lobby Day in March of 2009.  He is very excited to work with Equality NC this semester.

Brant Miller, internBrant Miller is a Senior at UNC-Greensboro studying French, Spanish, and Japanese. He is interested in organizing and policy work for equality, as well as working with HIV-positive and immigrant communities. Brant has been a supporter of ENC since before college, and was fortunate enough to find information about interning there through Twitter and a fortunate series of links. His other interests include films by Pedro Almodovar and Alfred Hitchcock, Shakespeare, Spanish food, and many genres of music.

Danielle O'Bryan, internDanielle O'Bryan is the communications Intern at Equality NC for spring 2010. She is a sociology major at NC State University and excited to use her knowledge of sociology and communications. In her spare time, she enjoys listening to music and watching the Rachel Maddow Show. She hopes the internship will grant her experience working in activism, as well as help her flex her communications muscles.

Returning interns include:

Aaron Camp, a student at Western Carolina University. 

Aaron's photoHe's currently a senior majoring in Social Work with a concentration and areas of interest of Micro-Therapeutic Practices, Policy Work, and Community Organizing. He came across ENC at his first Raleigh Pride three years ago. It became obvious to him that ENC was at the root of very important work and legislation in NC. 

Hillary Waugh has been an intern with Equality NC since May 2009. Hillary's photoThis fall she has focused on the 2009 Equality Conference and Gala. She is also particularly interested in policy work, community organizing, and development.

Hillary would like to work with LGBT adolescents and create LGBT-inclusive policies at local, state, and national levels. 

Hillary is a graduate student in the Higher Education Administration program at North Carolina State University and looking forward to receiving her degree in May of 2010.
