Chapel Hill Elects Openly Gay Mayor
11/4/2009 - Equality NC congratulates Mark Kleinschmidt on his election as mayor of Chapel Hill. He has served two terms on the Town Council. A former Equality NC board member, Mark will be the third out mayor in our state, following former Carrboro mayor Mike Nelson and current Franklinton mayor Elic Senter.

"Mark is an incredible leader and the town of Chapel Hill is lucky to have him at the helm," said Ian Palmquist, Executive Director. "Mark has demonstrated once again that voters elect people based on leadership and their positions on the issues, not sexual orientation."
